Choosing a Field

Jenna Reese of the Iraqw team shows that they have chosen Tanzania.

Choosing a field can be a simple or a complicated matter. Some choose a field because they grew up there (maybe as a missionary kid). They just feel they are going back home. Others do long or intensive surveys, including trips, to determine the need and if they, the missionary, can handle living there. Others choose a field because no one else has ever gone there and the people are dying without Jesus. Still others make a list of their possible choices, compare it with a list of what is good for their growing family until they narrow down their choices. Other missionaries feel drawn or called to a specific part of the world. Others choose a country because their friends (future teammates) want to go to that country. Still others choose a sponsoring congregation and it has decided on the field it wants to support. The method of choosing the field is varied. The important motivation that is consistant is that Jesus said, "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations. . . ." Matthew 28:19
